The 'Wow' Signal from KIC 8462852

Providing the best evidence we've had of an alien intelligence since the 'Wow' signal, KIC 8462852 is a star with very unusual properties. As a rule of thumb, planetary bodies passing in front of stars cause at most a 1% drop in visible light using the Kepler Observatory--KIC 8462852, on the other hand, has been periodically dropping by over 20%. Why? That's the mystery, and it was discovered initially by citizen scientists pouring over the data, trying to determine if the computer algorithms could have missed something. But what does it mean?
